Instead of moving lots of weights in the gym, this style of training is known as "Functional Training." The goal of functional training is to get people to move in a pain free, efficient manner that mimics their movement in sport or day-to-day life. This is accomplished by working on mobility of the joints and establishing a comfortable range of motion through every exercise. In order to accomplish mobility in the joints, the central nervous system (CNS) must be trained just like a muscle. It can be stimulated by incorporating mind/body work such as yoga, kettlebell training, and martial arts; all of which require the body to work in unison. Other great ideas for improving mobility and the central nervous system include core training and balance training such as single-leg deadlifts, single-leg squats, lunges, and stability ball work. These are the types of activities Ryan will be leading the group through. In addition he will incorporate bodyweight training, resistance band training, speed and agility training for footwork, and partner exercises, which are a great way to build teamwork and have fun. There will be a warmup and cool down period to work on flexibility as well.
Anyone who is willing to work hard and have fun is a good member for this group. The beauty of working out is that any exercise can be modified to fit each individual's needs as long as communication is present between the trainer and group.
The goal of each workout and overall goal is to have fun, improve upon existing fitness, prevent injury, and learn new exercises.
These classes will be taking place in the fresh outdoors, rain or shine! Bring a large water bottle, a towel, and something to change into afterward.
