Spinal Rehabilitation

For spinal rehabilitation, we teach our patients how to use FULCRUMS made by an orthopedic company called Pettibon. Fulcrums are a fantastic tool patients can easily use at home to stretch the ligamentous and tight soft tissues that bind your spinal column together. The concept is to correct the curves in your spine by doing daily exercises while lying on 2 fulcrum pads, one below your neck and one at the belly button level. By laying on a neck fulcrum, we are attempting to re-attain a cervical lordosis, or extension curve in your neck, as well as to reduce an excessively hunched and tight upper thoracic curve. By placing the lumbar fulcrum under your 12th rib, just above your lumbar spine, we are attempting to break up tension in the lower back. Also, Coach Melissa will teach exercises that relate specifically to each patient, such as cervical traction for neck decompression.

Stretching/Strengthening

We refer out patients to Coach Melissa to learn proper stretching techniques. Stretching has many benefits for your personal wellness including:

The protocol we follow starts with tests to measure your flexibility. From that assessment, a plan is developed for improving your flexibility and a re-test is scheduled to measure progress. You are taught the stretches appropriate for you and then sent pictures of those stretches for you to refer to.

Daily stretching routines can be performed in as little as ten minutes per day.
